[Commonplace book], [ca. 1700-1712].

Manuscript, in two hands, of a collection of maxims and extracted quotations from other texts, on political, philosophical, moral, and social subjects, and arranged topically. The headings are arranged alphabetically in each volume. The first volume includes such subjects as books; court and courtiers; death; fate; heat; king and kingdoms; obstinacy; retirement; solitude; scripture; and wit. Subjects in the second volume include applause; compassion; excommunication; fancy; ingratitude; matrimony; minister; negligence; raillery; and villainy. The entries in the second volume are composed primarily of maxims and precepts, and do not include quotations from other texts.
